Conservation

At Gadles Farm, we take caring for the environment very seriously. We commissioned a Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group report to study the wildlife on the farm and we are now using the findings of the report to improve wildlife habitats on the farm.

We have also entered the whole farm into an environmental stewardship scheme which encourages us to farm more environmentally. For example, we only trim hedges every two years - they may not look quite so tidy but the birds appreciate it!

The cottages have been provided with recycling facilities for glass, paper and tins so we can minimise landfill. We have also maximised the use of insulation to reduce heat loss and fitted low energy consumption appliances. Our stationery is printed on recycled paper.

We are very keen to ensure that your holiday at Gadles Farm is as enjoyable as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information or to discuss the suitability of the cottages to your needs.

Our Green Policy

We are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and as such we are fully committed to continuous good environmental practice and sustainable development of our business.

We not only comply with relevant legislation as a minimum level of performance, but also regularly review and monitor our policies to reduce the negative impact we have on the environment, whilst striving to maximise the positive aspects.

Green issues are of paramount importance to us and our employees in the area of sustainable tourism, and our awareness is demonstrated in practice through the following activites:

  • We have our own wind turbine on site
  • Use of our own bore hole water
  • Provision of recycling and composting facilities
  • Use of eco-friendly cleaning products
  • Promotion of purchase of fresh local produce to reduce waste packaging and reduce food miles
  • Use of low-energy light bulbs and highly efficient heating systems
  •  Provision of information to visitors on how to holiday “sustainably”
  • Line drying of laundry whenever possible
  • No smoking policy in accommodation

These activities are just a small sample of the good practices we undertake to minimise damage to our planet.

We are continually looking at ways we in which we can do more, we have recently installed a wind turbine, that should produce half of our electricity requirements across the farm and we are now looking at the installation of a photovoltaic generation system.
